NANS Southwest Applauds Safe Rescue of Gateway Polytechnic Students, Calls for Stronger Campus Security

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, has commended the Ogun State Government, the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies following the successful rescue of the five students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, who were abducted after gunmen attacked their off-campus residence.

In a statement issued by the Coordinator of NANS Southwest Zone D, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode (BILLIONCODES), the association described the rescue as a major victory for Nigerian students and a demonstration of what coordinated security efforts can achieve when institutions respond promptly.

NANS commended the Ogun State Government for supporting efforts that led to the students' safe return while also appreciating the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for their intelligence-driven rescue operation.

The association equally acknowledged the intervention of the National Secretary-General of NANS, Comrade Oladimeji Uthman, whose advocacy kept pressure on authorities throughout the crisis.

Special recognition was also extended to the Director of Sports, NANS Southwest Zone D, Comrade Oluwasegun Oluwaremilekun Kuruyo, and the Chairman of NANS Ogun JCC, Comrade Olabode Faruq, for their leadership during the rescue campaign.

While celebrating the rescue, NANS warned that repeated attacks on students around Ogun State institutions demand urgent structural reforms.

The association called for permanent security patrols around tertiary institutions, stronger intelligence gathering, surveillance around hostels, rapid emergency response systems and sustained collaboration between security agencies and student leaders.

"The safety of Nigerian students must never be treated as negotiable," the statement read.
