NANS Southwest Urges Students to Monitor Vote Counting, Collation After Osun Polls

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, has called on Nigerian students and student leaders across Osun State to remain peaceful and vigilant as voting draws to a close in the ongoing governorship election.

In an election-day notice signed by the Coordinator of NANS Southwest Zone D, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode (BILLIONCODES), the student body urged students, Students’ Union Government (SUG) leaders, Joint Campus Council (JCC) structures and other recognized student associations to turn their attention to the counting and collation of votes.

According to the statement, voting is scheduled to close by 2:30 p.m., while voters already on the queue at the time are expected to be allowed to complete the voting process.

NANS Southwest advised students who remain at their polling units to peacefully observe the counting process and, where permitted, properly record the results announced at their respective polling units.

The association stressed that the credibility of an election does not end with the casting of ballots, noting that accurate counting, recording and collation are equally important components of the electoral process.

The student body, however, cautioned students against obstructing officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security personnel or accredited party agents.

“Every student and comrade must remain peaceful, lawful and orderly. Do not engage in confrontation, intimidation or any act capable of disrupting the process,” the statement said.

NANS further encouraged students who observe irregularities to document them responsibly and communicate through established student monitoring and coordination channels for appropriate escalation.

The association reiterated that the student community has participated peacefully in the electoral process and should maintain the same conduct until the votes are properly counted and collated.

The statement concluded with a call for students to remain peaceful, observant and committed to protecting the credibility of the electoral process.
