NANS Southwest Secures Reinstatement of Suspended FUOYE Students After Engagement With Management
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, has announced the reinstatement of students earlier suspended by the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) following engagements between the student body and the university management.
According to a statement issued by the Southwest Zonal Coordinator, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode (Billioncodes), the intervention was initiated following directives from the National President of NANS, Comrade Babatunde Akinteye Afeez (Babtee), after concerns were raised by the NANS Joint Campus Committee (JCC) Ekiti Axis and students of the institution.
NANS disclosed that a high-level meeting was held with the university management to review the circumstances surrounding the suspensions and address other issues affecting students within the university community.
The association stated that after extensive deliberations, consultations, and fact-finding reviews, the affected students were reinstated and granted the opportunity to continue their academic activities, including participation in ongoing examinations.
The student body further revealed that the university management briefed its delegation on disciplinary measures previously taken against certain individuals linked to the circulation of private content involving the former Students’ Union President, Comrade James Adio.
Regarding matters relating to the former Students’ Union President, NANS stated that the university informed its delegation that further consideration and deliberation would be undertaken by the University Senate at its next scheduled sitting.
As part of the resolutions reached during the engagement, both parties agreed to collaborate on student sensitization programmes aimed at promoting responsible conduct, digital ethics, leadership accountability, conflict resolution, and greater awareness of institutional regulations.
NANS Southwest described the outcome as a demonstration of the effectiveness of dialogue, consultation, and constructive engagement in addressing issues affecting students, while reaffirming its commitment to protecting students’ rights, welfare, and academic interests through peaceful and lawful means.
