NANS President’s NSA Advocates Support for Community Security Initiatives
The National Security Adviser to the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Alimi Yusuf, has called for increased support for community-based security initiatives as part of broader efforts to address insecurity across the country.
In a statement released on Sunday, the student leader commended the reported release of kidnapped victims in Igboho, Oyo State, following interventions attributed to local security efforts.
According to Alimi, the development underscores the importance of strengthening indigenous security structures that can effectively complement the activities of conventional law enforcement and security agencies.
The NANS presidential aide specifically praised Oloye Sunday Igboho for what he described as proactive involvement in community security matters and urged relevant authorities to explore greater collaboration with community-driven security initiatives.
He further appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to support the Iru Ekun Local Security Outfit within established legal, constitutional, and institutional frameworks.
Alimi maintained that stronger cooperation between local security outfits and formal security agencies would contribute significantly to ongoing efforts aimed at safeguarding lives, protecting property, and improving public safety across affected communities.
The NANS official also emphasized the need for collective action among government institutions, security stakeholders, traditional leaders, and community actors in tackling security challenges confronting various parts of the country.
He reiterated that sustainable security requires collaboration, intelligence sharing, and community participation, expressing optimism that strengthened partnerships would enhance peace, stability, and national development.
