NANS to Hold Further Talks With UNIOSUN Management as Ifetedo Campus Remains Shut
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, has disclosed that it will continue discussions with the management of Osun State University (UNIOSUN) over the circumstances surrounding the death of a final-year law student, Miss Osunlakin Grace.
The student body revealed that another engagement with the university management has been scheduled for Monday, June 29, as part of its ongoing efforts to review developments and obtain further clarity regarding the unfortunate incident.
According to NANS, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye, informed its leadership that the university had already commenced an internal investigation aimed at establishing the facts surrounding the student's death.
The association also noted that the university has temporarily shut down its Ifetedo Campus while investigations and other administrative processes relating to the matter continue.
NANS stated that differing accounts from students, student leaders, and members of the university community have made continued fact-finding necessary in order to ensure transparency and establish an accurate understanding of events.
The organization explained that its engagement is focused on gathering facts and examining concerns relating to healthcare service delivery, emergency medical response mechanisms, referral procedures, and student welfare structures within the institution.
According to the association, the outcome of its consultations and engagements is expected to contribute to recommendations that will strengthen healthcare systems and improve student welfare across the university.
While extending condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased student, NANS Southwest urged students to remain calm, peaceful, and cooperative as investigations and consultations continue.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing accountability, transparency, and reforms that will safeguard the welfare and wellbeing of students within tertiary institutions across the Southwest region.
