The Forum of Zonal Coordinators of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has requested urgent legislative attention to the constitutional issues arising from the leadership crisis in NANS Zone A.

In a formal communication addressed to Senate President Dist. Sen. Ibeabuchi Moses Onyia, the Forum congratulated the Senate leadership while drawing attention to what it described as constitutional concerns surrounding the purported removal of the elected Zone A Coordinator, Comr. Nura Baba Waziri.

The Forum noted that previous interventions by former NANS President, Comr. Olushola Oladoja, as well as engagements by zonal leadership, were aimed at fostering reconciliation among stakeholders.

Central to the letter is the argument that no provision of the NANS Constitution grants stakeholders the authority to suspend, impeach, or remove elected officers outside established constitutional procedures.

According to the Forum, allowing such actions to stand without legislative review could create precedents capable of undermining democratic mandates throughout the association’s structures nationwide.

The Zonal Coordinators therefore called on the Senate to exercise its constitutional oversight responsibilities, provide authoritative interpretation where necessary, and reaffirm the supremacy of the NANS Constitution in matters concerning elected offices.

The Forum maintained that Senate intervention would reinforce constitutional order, democratic accountability, and institutional stability within the students’ movement.
