NANS Southwest Commends Tinubu, Makinde, Security Agencies Over Successful Rescue of Abducted Oriire Pupils and Teachers
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and Nigeria’s security agencies for the successful rescue of pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
In an open letter signed by the Southwest Zonal Coordinator, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode (BILLIONCODES), the association described the rescue as "a victory for humanity, hope, and coordinated security operations," noting that the operation has strengthened public confidence in Nigeria’s security architecture.
According to NANS, the successful rescue represents more than the recovery of innocent victims, describing it as evidence that intelligence-driven collaboration among security agencies can effectively combat criminality and protect vulnerable communities.
The student body commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing the national leadership under which the operation was executed and also praised Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for maintaining close collaboration with federal security agencies throughout the crisis.
NANS further acknowledged the professionalism and sacrifices of personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other security agencies, describing them as patriotic officers who risked their lives to secure the freedom of innocent Nigerians.
The association also applauded the National President of NANS, Comrade Babatunde Akinteye Afeez (BABTEE), for consistently advocating the safe return of the abducted pupils and ensuring that the issue remained a priority within the Nigerian student movement.
While celebrating the successful rescue operation, NANS urged the Federal Government to establish a comprehensive rehabilitation programme for victims of terrorism and violent crimes. The proposed programme, according to the association, should include psychological counselling, medical care, educational support, scholarships, vocational training, and economic assistance for affected families.
The association stressed that innocent victims of terrorism and violent attacks deserve sustained care and support, emphasizing that rehabilitation efforts should prioritize those who have suffered directly from criminal activities.
Reaffirming its commitment to national peace and security, NANS Southwest pledged to continue supporting government and security agencies through advocacy, public sensitisation, youth engagement, and intelligence-driven community partnerships aimed at promoting a safer and more secure Nigeria.
