NANS Southwest Condemns Killing of D.S. Adegbenro Polytechnic Student, Demands Justice &Immediate Security Reforms
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, has strongly condemned the killing of Miss Ahmed Sekinat, an HND II Marketing student of D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori, Ogun State, who reportedly lost her life during an overnight robbery attack around the Eruku student residential community in Ewekoro Local Government Area.
In a statement jointly signed by the leadership of NANS Southwest Zone D, the association described the incident as "heartbreaking, unacceptable, and one tragedy too many," noting that the deceased was preparing to complete her examinations before her life was abruptly cut short.
According to NANS, another student reportedly sustained gunshot injuries while several others were wounded during the attack, prompting students of the institution to stage protests demanding improved security around the campus and adjoining host communities.
The association confirmed that its representatives are already on ground to engage with protesting students and ensure that their demands remain peaceful, coordinated, and focused on justice and improved security.
NANS Southwest called on the Ogun State Government, the Commissioner of Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and other security agencies to immediately identify and prosecute those responsible while strengthening security patrols around student communities.
The association warned that students should never be forced to choose between obtaining an education and protecting their lives, insisting that campuses and hostels must remain safe environments for learning.
Extending condolences to the family of the deceased and the entire academic community, NANS reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing justice until meaningful action is taken.
