NANS President Secures Commitments on Student Welfare During High-Level Engagement with Osun State Polytechnic, Iree Management

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has reaffirmed its commitment to defending the welfare of Nigerian students following a strategic engagement between its National leadership and the management of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.
The meeting, led by the National President of NANS, Dist. Comr. Akinteye Babatunde Afeez (BABTEE), GCNS, brought together the institution's management headed by the Rector, Mr. Kehinde Alabi, the Students' Union Government, NANS Joint Campus Council (JCC), Osun State, and other student leaders to address issues affecting students and strengthen collaboration between the student movement and the institution.
Addressing the meeting, the NANS President stated that the intervention followed widespread concerns raised by students regarding welfare-related issues within the institution. He emphasized that the Association's position was guided solely by its constitutional responsibility to protect students' interests.
"Our engagement with the management is not personal. It is driven by our commitment to ensuring that every Nigerian student enjoys an enabling learning environment. Student welfare must remain the priority of every tertiary institution," he stated.
He also commended the Students' Union President for standing firmly in defence of students while applauding the Rector for choosing dialogue over confrontation.
A major highlight of the meeting was the concern raised over the institution's Information and Communication Technology (ICT) facilities.
The NANS President expressed dissatisfaction over reports that students continue to pay ICT-related charges despite the apparent inadequacy of internet facilities and digital infrastructure needed to support effective learning.
According to him, institutions have a responsibility to ensure that students receive value for services paid for, particularly at a time when many families are battling severe economic challenges.
While reaffirming NANS' support for technological advancement, he maintained that digital innovation should simplify learning rather than create additional hardship for students.
He equally called for urgent improvements to the institution's Computer-Based Examination (CBE) facilities to guarantee a seamless assessment process.
The President acknowledged the Rector's efforts in providing mobility support for the Students' Union and appealed for the speedy completion of the proposed renovation of the Students' Union Building (SUB), noting that the project would significantly improve student representation and union activities.
He further encouraged the management to sustain regular dialogue with student leaders as a proactive approach to resolving issues before they escalate.
Responding, the Rector, Mr. Kehinde Alabi, appreciated the leadership of NANS for embracing constructive engagement and assured the delegation that concerns raised during the meeting would receive prompt attention.
He reaffirmed the institution's commitment to improving infrastructure, strengthening academic standards, and prioritising the welfare of students.
The meeting ended with both parties expressing optimism that sustained collaboration between management and student leaders would enhance peace, academic excellence, and institutional development at Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.
