NANS to Storm Ogun State July 29 Over Killing of Final-Year Student, Demands End to Insecurity in Student Communities

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, has announced a full-scale intervention in Ogun State following the tragic killing of Ahmed Sekinat, an HND II Marketing student of D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori.

In a mobilisation notice issued by the Coordinator, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode (BILLIONCODES), the association declared that its leadership and student representatives will storm Ogun State on Wednesday, July 29, to demand justice, accountability, and immediate reforms to the security architecture protecting students.

NANS described the killing as one tragedy too many, lamenting that a student preparing to complete her academic programme instead became another victim of violent crime.

The association noted that the latest attack is part of a disturbing pattern of robberies, shootings, kidnappings and killings targeting students and host communities across Ogun State.

"How many students must be attacked, robbed, injured or killed before student communities receive the security attention they deserve?" the statement queried.

According to NANS, the intervention will begin with a visit to the scene of the attack and affected student community before proceeding to engage the Ogun State Police Command and other relevant security authorities.

The student body stated that it would no longer accept routine assurances that investigations are ongoing without visible outcomes.

Instead, NANS is demanding concrete intelligence-driven investigations, arrests of suspects, prosecution where culpability is established, increased security patrols around campuses and hostels, and a comprehensive review of security arrangements protecting students across Ogun State.

The association also called on the Inspector-General of Police to examine recurring attacks affecting students in Ogun State and evaluate the operational response of the State Police Command.

NANS maintained that the July 29 intervention will remain peaceful, lawful and disciplined, urging all participating student leaders to remain focused on the demands for justice, security and accountability.

The association reiterated that attacks on students must no longer be treated as isolated incidents, insisting that protecting students remains a collective responsibility of government and security agencies.
