The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, has strengthened its partnership with the Osun State Police Command following a high-level meeting between the Southwest Zonal Coordinator, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode (BILLIONCODES), and the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, aimed at addressing political violence, youth restiveness, and other social vices threatening students and young people.

The strategic engagement focused on the recent incidents of violence across Osun State, with both parties identifying the growing exploitation of young people for politically motivated activities as a major concern requiring immediate intervention.

During the meeting, CP Ibrahim Gotan commended the leadership of NANS Southwest for initiating dialogue with security agencies and stressed that many victims of political violence are youths manipulated by politicians to pursue personal interests.

The Police Commissioner urged the student body to intensify awareness campaigns across tertiary institutions through seminars, conferences, public lectures, and advocacy programmes designed to discourage cultism, drug abuse, political thuggery, and other forms of violence.

Responding, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode reaffirmed the commitment of NANS Southwest to promoting peace and responsible youth engagement. He disclosed that the association has concluded plans to launch a comprehensive regional campaign against political violence and social vices across the six Southwest states.

According to the Coordinator, Osun State has been selected as the pilot location for the initiative, which will subsequently be extended across the region. The campaign will feature seminars, town hall meetings, advocacy walks, leadership conferences, and public enlightenment programmes aimed at discouraging young people from becoming instruments of violence.

The Police Commissioner pledged the full support of the Osun State Police Command for the initiative and expressed readiness to personally participate in future advocacy programmes organised by NANS Southwest.

Both institutions concluded the engagement by reaffirming their shared commitment to promoting peace, strengthening youth enlightenment, and building safer campuses and communities through sustained collaboration.
