OSUN MODEL: NANS Southwest Applauds Governor Adeleke on Student Inclusion, Tasks Other Governors on Youth Appointments
OSOGBO – The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, has officially commended the Governor Ademola Adeleke-led administration for its landmark approach to student inclusiveness and youth engagement in Osun State.
In a statement released on May 17th, 2026, by the Zonal General Secretary, Comrade Ojetola Babatunde Y., the association expressed satisfaction with the recent appointment of the NANS Southwest Coordinator, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, popularly known as BILLIONCODES, as the Director of Campus Affairs for the Imole Youth Campaign Team.
The appointment, powered by the Osun State Ministry of Youth Affairs, is being hailed by the student body as a strategic recognition of organized student leadership as a critical stakeholder in the “Imole” administration.
“Students are Active Contributors, Not Just Future Leaders”
NANS Southwest emphasized that the inclusion of student leaders in governance-related roles represents a major departure from the traditional system where students are merely promised a better future without meaningful participation in present-day governance.
“This represents a progressive step towards strengthening the relationship between government institutions and the student constituency,” the statement noted.
The association further stressed that students must not only be regarded as future leaders but as active contributors whose voices, perspectives, and participation remain essential in shaping policies that affect education and youth empowerment.
A Challenge to the Southwest Region
While celebrating the development in Osun State, the Zonal leadership issued a clarion call to other state governments across the Southwest geopolitical zone.
The association charged governors in the region to move beyond rhetoric by creating genuine opportunities for competent student representatives to participate actively in policy formulation, governance discussions, and developmental initiatives.
According to NANS Southwest, such deliberate inclusion remains one of the most effective approaches to addressing the growing challenges of youth unemployment, economic hardship, and political disengagement among young Nigerians.
Non-Partisan but Pro-Progress
Despite the commendation, the leadership reaffirmed that NANS remains a non-partisan umbrella body committed to protecting and advancing the interests of Nigerian students.
However, the association maintained that it would continue to support every sincere and well-intentioned effort by governments that prioritize student welfare, empowerment, and educational development.
The association also congratulated Comrade BILLIONCODES on his new appointment, describing him as a “vibrant leader whose years of activism continue to inspire many across campuses in the Southwest region.”
